Hong Leong Yamaha Motor introduces their latest addition to the MT series, the MT25 and MT15 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Speaking at the launch themed “Rush of Darkness”, Dato Jim Khor, Hong Leong industries Bhd group Managing Director said “In 2019, the sales of motorcycles grew to a volume of close to 590,000 units. An 8% up from the year 2018. And we expect this trend to continue as we fulfil the void in the naked bike category in Malaysia”.
The MT25 and MT15 are locally assembled utilizing parts from Indonesia. Although the MT25 has been in Indonesia and Thailand since 2019, it took a while for Malaysia to introduce them due to research and further development to ensure its suitability for the Malaysian riding style and roads condition.
Build from Yamaha MT-series DNA, the MT25 and MT15 comes with LCD instrument panel, front and rear LED lights, race-designed air scoop and inverted front fork. Both models have a pair intimidating predator-styled, dual-slant LED head light.
The MT25 or the Rush of Darkness has a 249cc, 4-stroke, in-line 2-cylinder, DOHC, 8-valve engine. Fuel injection, ABS brakes and is cooled with a liquid cool system. Producing 26.5Kw@12,000 rpm with a torque of 23.6 Nm@10,000 rpm.
Hopefully, we are able to secure a unit to test out and inform all you bikers and potential bikers here of our review. The MT25 will be available at all dealers at the end this month (September 2020) and is sold at RM21,500 without registration and insurance.
The MT15 or the Spirit of Darkness on the other hand is a replacement of the FZ 150i. It comes without ABS but has a great looking pair of gold coloured inverted front fork, which in our opinion should be on the MT25 as well. 150cc engine, 6-speed gear box, assisted slipper clutch, aluminium swing-arm, Yamaha Delta-box frame, 10-liters of fuel tank and a 140mm rear tyre. It will be available to purchase starting November 2020, but Hong Leong Yamaha Motor is not revealing its price just yet. So stay tune.
Both models come with 2 choices of colours. Yamaha Blue and Ice Fluo. Hong Leong Yamaha is having a promotion now for buyers of MT25 where a first edition key chain crafted by Royal Selangor would be given away free. Also together with Aeon Credit, a profit rate as low as 6% per annum is available. Buyers will also get a 2-year free membership of SOS Fastlane, an emergency service application worth RM210.00 with 1-year free extended membership.
