Moto2™: Francesco Bagnaia (SKY Racing Team VR46) takes maiden win as Bagnaia is crowned Champion

Francesco Bagnaia (SKY Racing Team VR46) clinched the 2018 Moto2™ World Championship at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix after finishing P3 at Sepang. The Italian finished behind title rival Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) to seal the title, with teammate Luca Marini making it a memorable day for SKY Racing Team VR46 as he secured his maiden Grand Prix victory.

As the lights went out, both the main riders in the Championship got off to a flyer. However Marini it was who led coming out of Turn 1 after a messy opening corner for his fellow front row starters; Fabio Quartararo (MB Conveyors – Speed Up) and Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) both running in hot. This allowed Bagnaia and Oliveira to slip through up the inside to get into P2 and P3. Pretty much the perfect getaway for ‘Pecco’, who slotted in behind teammate Marini.

Marini then got himself into a rhythm at the front, with Bagnaia and Oliveira battling away for P2 – the title firmly in Bagnaia’s hands at this early stage of the race, even with Oliveira making a pass stick at Turn 4 with 12 laps to go. The Portuguese rider locked his radar on race leader Marini, who now had a second lead, with Bagnaia slipping into the clutches of compatriot Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team), with pole sitter Marquez and Lorenzo Baldassarri (Pons HP40) also in hot pursuit of the Championship leader.

Oliveira had reeled in Marini 11 laps remaining, with a win for the KTM rider enough to take the title chase down to Valencia if Bagnaia dropped below the podium positions. With six laps to go, it seemed the battle for the win was between Marini and Oliveira, with both Baldassarri and Marquez losing touch in the battle for the final podium spot – Pasini though remained 0.4 behind countryman Bagnaia.

In sweltering Sepang conditions, Marini was being made to sweat by Oliveira as he continued to look strong for a first Grand Prix win. But the Italian was on rails as he soaked up the pressure from the KTM behind and with two laps to go, a 0.7 gap had appeared. Going into the final lap, Marini had the biggest lead he’d had for a while, with Bagnaia sitting comfortably in a Championship clinching P3 – over a second was the cushion back to Pasini.

As the chequered flag was waved it was double delight for SKY Racing Team VR46 as Marini took a magnificent maiden Grand Prix victory, with Bagnaia coming home third to seal the 2018 Moto2™ World Championship. Oliveira didn’t go down without a fight as he took P2 at the Sepang International Circuit – his 11th podium of the season.

Pasini crossed the line in P4, with Quartararo rounding out the top five after getting the better of sixth place Baldassarri and seventh place Marquez in the latter stages. Australian GP winner Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took P8 in Malaysia, with Marcel Schrotter (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Joan Mir (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) rounding out the top ten in P9 and P10 respectively.

Iker Lecuona (Swiss Innovative Investors), Xavi Cardelus (Marinelli Snipers Team), Remy Gardner (Tech 3 Racing), Tetsuta Nagashima (Idemistu Honda Team Asia), Niki Tuuli (Petronas Sprinta Racing) and Augusto Fernandez (Pons HP40) crashed out.

Just like the lightweight class, the 2018 intermediate class crown was decided in Malaysia and it went the way of ‘Pecco’. A stunning season for the Italian, with teammate Marini continuing his fantastic 2018.

At Belgium’s Spa Francorchamps circuit, Malaysia At Belgium’s Spa Francorchamps circuit, Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team secured 4th in the #GT3-AM Class and 7th overall in Round 2 of the Michelin 24H Series. The result lifts them to joint 1st in the GT3-AM standings (56 points) alongside Hofor Racing and HAAS RT, keeping them firmly in the championship fight with three rounds remaining.

Driven by Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang, and Aaron Lim in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, the team staged a strong comeback from 15th on the grid. They climbed steadily through the field, reaching as high as 6th overall before finishing 7th after 239 laps, missing the class podium by just two laps.

Despite falling short of a third consecutive podium at Spa, the team delivered a clean and competitive performance in a field dominated by McLaren, Audi, and Porsche entries. With valuable points secured and consistent pace shown across both race segments, Viper Niza Racing remains well-positioned as the championship heads into its final three rounds.

Season 9 of the Toyota GAZOO Racing Vios Challenge Season 9 of the Toyota GAZOO Racing Vios Challenge kicked off on 17–19 April at Sepang, marking its 9th consecutive year since 2017 and reinforcing its status as a long-running manufacturer-based saloon car race series.

A total of 51 drivers are competing across four classes: Super Sporting (professionals), Sporting (amateurs), Rookie (young drivers), and Classic Challenge (older Vios race cars).

In the Super Sporting Class:

Race 1 saw Ady Rahimy win from pole, with Freddie Ang finishing 2nd and Nabil Azlan 3rd.

Race 2 was won by Freddie Ang, who surged from 5th place to lead early and secured victory despite heavy rain ending the race under a safety car.

In the Sporting Class, Race 1 delivered intense action, with multiple lead changes before Adam Mikail claimed a standout win in wet conditions.

Wing Hin Motorsports’ Driver Development Program received a huge boost when two of its drivers finished the opening round of the Japanese Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Clubman Series in 2nd and 6th positions at Autopolis Circuit.

Malaysia’s Mitchell Cheah got off to a dream start in his racing debut in Japan when he powered the Wing Hin Motorsports GR86 to a hard-fought 2nd place.

The 2026 Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Cup will be run over seven rounds. From the season-opener at Autopolis, the Series moves to Round 2 from 16-17 May at Sportsland Sugo, followed by Round 3 from 27-28 June at Okayama International Circuit; and Round 4 from 8-9 August at the Tokachi Speedway. Round 5 will be held at Fuji Speedway from 5-6 September, followed by Round 6 from 3-4 October at Suzuka Circuit before the 7th and final round at Mobility Resort Montegi from 21-22 November.

Having won the Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Clubman Series last year, Malaysia’s Wing Hin Motorsports is doubling down on its’s presence in Japan to establish a gateway for the rise of racing talent from Asia.

In collaboration with Masahiro Sasaki, a Gazoo Racing and Rookie Racing driver, the Malaysian team will field two drivers at the opening of the 2026 Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Clubman Series this weekend as part of its Driver Development Program. Wing Hin Motorsports had won the Series in its debut last year with Naquib Azlan and also clinched a 4th place overall with a second Malaysian driver Amer Harris.

This year, Wing Hin Motorsports will field Malaysian touring car ace Mitchell Cheah and Indonesian Jordan Johan in the Series with Round 1 taking on the Autopolis Circuit.
The Malaysian pairing of Naquib Azlan and Amer Har The Malaysian pairing of Naquib Azlan and Amer Harris delivered a respectable result in their debut outing in the 2026 ENEOS Super Taikyu Series, finishing 7th in class and 11th overall from a 30-car grid in Round 1 at Mobility Resort Motegi.

Piloting the Wing Hin Motorsports #338 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, the duo—alongside experienced Japanese Super Taikyu driver Shuji Maeshima—finished two laps behind the winning Audi R8 LMS GT4. Despite the result, the team showed consistent and competitive pace throughout the 4-hour race, running within one second of the frontrunners. They had qualified 7th in class and started 14th overall on the grid.

“Considering we are a new team on the grid, the result is encouraging. We started the season in the midfield of the ST-Z class rather than at the back, and also placed well in the overall standings. We’re confident we have the right drivers and the right package. As with anything new, progress will come with hard work and experience,” said Wing Hin Motorsports Team Principal William Loh.

The trio of Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh in the #65 green Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO was also placed 8th in GT3 and 10th overall completing a total of 344 laps.

The all-Malaysian team will take on all five rounds of the Michelin 24H Series and with the next race moving to the grueling 12 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from 17-19 April.

The overall race victory had gone to the Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II of Sainteloc Junior Team with ARC Bratislava and their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO taking the win in the GT3-AM Class.

Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team will take on t Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team will take on the 12 Hours of Mugello in Italy this weekend (20-22 March) as it kicks off its Michelin 24H Series European campaign for 2026.

The 2026 season will see Viper Niza Racing taking all five rounds of the Michelin 24H Series. From Mugello, Round 2 moves to the 12 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from 17-19 April, followed by Round 3, the 12 Hours of Paul Ricard in France from 5-7 June. Round 4 will be the 12 Hours of Nurburgring in Germany from 3-5 July before concluding with the 24 Hours of Barcelona in Spain from 18-20 September.

In only its first full season in Europe last year, Viper Niza finished 6th overall and 4th in the point standings of the GT3-AM Class in 2025 despite taking part in only four of the five scheduled rounds. The team missed the opening round at Mugello last year when its Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO could not arrive in time for the race weekend, forgoing valuable championship points.

Khoo will lead an all-Malaysian technical crew and driver line-up which will include longtime partners Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh in the GT3-AM Class.

The Thailand Super Series kicks off a pre-season test from 22-23 April at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram ahead of the opening round from 21-24 May at the same circuit. Round 2 will be from 1-5 July and held in conjunction with the 20 th Anniversary celebration of the Bangsaen Grand Prix international street racing festival in Chonburi. Rounds 3 and 4 will move to the Petronas Sepang International Circuit from 21-23 August and 18-20 September, respectively, with the finale returning to the Chang International Circuit from 30 Oct-1 Nov.
