12 HOURS OF MISANO DEBUT FOR MALAYSIA’S VIPER NIZA RACING![]()
Italy will set the stage for a very much anticipated race weekend for Viper Niza Racing Team as they prepare to compete in the 12 Hours of Misano for the very first time on an unfamiliar circuit.![]()
On what is better known as a motorcycle track as it is home to the San Marino Grand Prix in MotoGP, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli plays host to only its second 12 Hour world sportscar endurance race from 23-24 May 2025.![]()
Khoo will be joined by Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh, as well as an all Malaysian crew. Despite the team’s mixed feeling of excitement and uncertainty of the unknown, Viper Niza Racing will however, head to Misano with an inspiring race record so far this year: 6th overall, 4th in the GT3 class and 2nd in the GT3 AM class in the Michelin 12 Hours of Spa Francorchamps in Belgium; and victory in the GT AM Masters class and 2nd in the GT AM class at the Motul 12 Hours of Sepang.![]()
In 2024, Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli joined the world endurance sportscar series, and at that very first 12 Hours of Misano, Audi reigned supreme taking the overall top two places, winning the GT3 Class as well as the GT3 AM Class with its Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II machines.

THREE STRIKES FOR VIPER NIZA RACING TEAM AT THE 12 HOURS OF MISANO![]()
Up until Misano, 2025 has so far been kind to Viper Niza Racing that has achieved 6th overall, 4th in the GT3 class and 2nd in the GT3 AM class in the Michelin 12 Hours of Spa Francorchamps in Belgium; and victory in the GT AM Masters class and 2nd in the GT AM class at the Motul 12 Hours of Sepang.
Racing is unpredictable and that was to be the case for Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team who looked competitive throughout the week heading to the 12 Hours of Misano in Italy until disaster struck.![]()
Qualifying 10th overall from a field of 23 cars, the team climbed to as high as 6th overall in the race last weekend before being troubled by a series of events which led to a retirement.![]()
Dominic Ang who started the race for Viper Niza racing charged ahead to be amongst the front runners and leaders in the GT3 AM Class but 90 minutes into his stint, a failed power steering pump brought the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO in for an unscheduled pit stop. The team managed to replace it with a new power steering pump unit and returned to the race but lost 10 laps to the race leaders in the process.![]()
In the second hour of racing, Team Principal and lead driver Douglas Khoo had his driving stint abruptly interrupted by a wobbling rear left wheel, caused by it being improperly fastened during a scheduled pit stop and driver change.![]()
The third and final blow came with Melvin Moh at the wheel after 8 hours of racing – with just 4 more hours to the finish – when the car began leaking engine oil. The fault was traced to a crack in the engine oil sump and with extensive repairs which required welding and time, the team was forced to concede to bitterly accept its first race retirement.
