The wait is over for the latest model of the iconic Defender, with Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) set to launch the new Defender 110 on October 21, 2021 at 11am. Malaysian enthusiasts are invited to the live stream of the digital launch on Land Rover Malaysia’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/landrovermalaysia.
Completely redesigned and reengineered, the new Land Rover Defender remains the toughest and the ultimate 4×4 vehicle for overland adventures. It combines off-road ability with toughness to create the ultimate dual-purpose vehicle through delivery of a practical technology and a functional design for everyday city driving.
Named the 2021 World Car Design of the Year, the new Defender features a distinctive silhouette that makes it instantly recognisable, with minimal front and rear overhangs providing class-leading ground clearance, breakover, approach and departure angles. Land Rover’s designers re-envisioned familiar Defender trademarks, giving the 4×4 a purposeful upright stance and Alpine light windows in the roof, while retaining the side-hinged rear tailgate and externally mounted spare wheel that makes the original so identifiable.
Among the new great features of the Defender include:
- 3D Surround Camera coupled with new 3D exterior perspectives alongside a 360° overhead view which makes manoeuvring easier, while off-road views including the innovative ClearSight Ground View provides the driver with more confidence when scaling various terrains. This feature displays a camera view of the front underside of the vehicle on the large central Touchscreen – which under normal circumstances, would not be visible to the driver
- Adaptive Dynamics with Electronic Air Suspension, allowing the driver to fine-tune the driving characteristics. The system’s adaptive dampers monitor body movements up to 500 times per second and respond almost instantaneously to optimise control and comfort in ensuring a composed flat ride.
- Wading depth of 900mm, which makes it the first Land Rover to feature a Wade programme within the Terrain Response menu. The Wade Program in Terrain Response raises the vehicle using Electronic Air Suspension, while Wade Sensing uses ultrasonic sensors in the door mirrors to alert the driver visually and audibly if water approaches the vehicle’s maximum wading depth.
- State-of-the-art new Pivi Pro infotainment system that is supported by British-based Meridian Sound System.
The Defender’s new purpose-engineered architecture is based on a lightweight aluminium monocoque construction of the new D7x architecture to create the stiffest body structure that the brand has ever produced – three times stiffer than the best body-on-frame designs in the market.
The new Defender makes the perfect companion for overland adventures with a permanent all-wheel drive, a twin-speed automatic gearbox, a maximum towing capability of 3,500kg and a maximum static roof load of 300kg.
The Defender 110 is available in two options of powertrains – 2.0L 300PS (Metric Horsepower) and 3.0L 400PS (Metric Horsepower) MHEV.
