Just two months after reintroducing itself in the Malaysian market and surprising enthusiasts as well as its competitors with the launch of five new middleweight and high-performance motorcycles, Suzuki Malaysia Sdn Bhd today unleashed two heavyweights in the form of the legendary Hayabusa sports bike and the V-STROM 1050XT sports adventure tourer series.

“The introduction of the Hayabusa and V-STROM 1050XT completes our line-up of middle to heavyweight range of motorcycles for 2021, providing enthusiasts a very broad, exciting and engaging range of products to cater to different individual needs,” said Dato’ Jeffrey Lim, the General Manager and Director of Suzuki Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

“Looking at the entire range of Suzuki motorcycles we have been able to make available today in the Malaysian market in just over two months, you can bet that the brand is a serious contender, not only in terms of the technology advancements built into the individual products, its unique styling, and the high levels of riding enjoyment it offers but also in terms of price proposition whereby the most affordable models are priced just below RM40,000 (V-STROM 650XT and SV 650). Backed by an expansive network of 70 experienced sales and service dealerships nationwide, Suzuki is also one of the most reassuring brands in terms of after sales support.”

Marking a new era for the brand, Suzuki Malaysia Sdn Bhd had in August underlined a clear ambition to become a major player in Malaysia’s motorcycle market with the launch of five exciting motorcycles: the 2021 generation of the GSX-R1000 and GSX -R1000R super sport; the iconic Katana; the GSX-S 750; V-STROM 650XT sport adventure tourer; and SV 650 street bike.

HAYABUSA

Price:                    RM111,200.00 (suggested retail price without insurance and registration)

Colours:               Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Burnt gold

Metallic Matte Sword Silver/Candy Daring Red Pearl Brilliant White/Metallic Matte Stellar Blue

First unveiled to the world in 1999, the Hayabusa shocked the motorcycle world by delivering a whole new level of speed, power and overall performance. It not only created a new class known today as the ultimate sport bike category, but laid claim to the title of being the world’s fastest production motorcycle.

Keeping its long and low stance design, the latest Hayabusa merges form and function to actually help its wind-cutting design. Aerodynamic performance is crucial for a motorcycle with speeds nearing 300 km/h, hence why Suzuki engineers have put the Hayabusa through extensive wind tunnel testing using the latest CAE tools to achieve the best drag coefficients found on a street legal motorcycle.

With high standards to beat (set by previous generations of the Hayabusa), the latest and third generation Hayabusa has not only successfully retained its stunning styling presence, but is also engineered to an even higher performance while at the same time capable of complying stringent Euro 5 emissions standards. The Hayabusa continues to provide riders with greater horsepower and torque than any other sport bike at engine speeds of up to 6,000 rpm, a legacy that it proudly retains as the ultimate sport bike. It is exceptionally faster, even more controllable, and an advanced new suite of intelligent electronic controls allow riders to dictate how the bike will respond and perform in various situations.

Powered by a four-stroke, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1,340cm3 engine, the Hayabusa pushes a maximum horsepower of 190PS at 9700rpm with a maximum torque of 150Nm at 7000rpm. The Hayabusa adopts a new Suzuki Side Feed Injector (S-SFI), which is a new dual injector design that places the secondary injector at an angle on the side of the intake funnel. Its spray strikes a reflecting plate in the funnel and creates a fine mist that enters the combustion chamber resulting in a 2% increase in power and torque output in low to mid-range.

A new ride-by-wire electronic throttle system meanwhile, provides light, natural response with linear control. This works in tandem with tapered throttle bodies that have been changed from 44mm to 43mm and the overall intake pipe length, (including the intake pipe, throttle body and funnel), extended by 12mm over the previous intake system, to generate greater power output at low to mid- range engine speeds.

Couple with a new and exclusively designed exhaust system, riders can expect a more docile Hayabusa with a very linear power delivery that makes riding in urban areas easier. Once on empty road, rip the throttle and the Hayabusa dons its fastest production bike crown again.

In terms of design, the Hayabusa retains a very dominant on-the-road presence which pays homage to its predecessors, yet has its own distinct aura of being a “Refined Beast”. Both Suzuki designers and engineers were able to explicitly express poise and performance in the way the Hayabusa’s styling blends seamlessly with outright performance which is aided by intelligent electronic control systems to enhance and advance one’s riding experience.

The Hayabusa’s chassis features a light, strong twin-spar aluminum alloy frame and swing arm constructed using castings and extrusions. Wind-cutting aerodynamic design features, bestow the Hayabusa with one of the best drag coefficients achieved by any motorcycle.

With a 50:50 front-rear weight distribution, the Hayabusa’s high speed stability and controllability is derived from fully adjustable 43mm outer diameter KYB inverted front forks and KYB rear suspension, while stopping power is anchored by four-piston Brembo Style front brake callipers paired with 320mm outer diameter discs.

One of the best features on the latest generation Hayabusa will have to be the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.)

S.I.R.S. combines a set five of electronic features that helps you to enjoy the maximum performance from the modern engine and the rigidity of its new chassis and suspension set-up.

  1. Power Mode Selector

Offers three different engine output to match the road and riding conditions.

  1. Anti-lift Control System

Allows you to accelerate harder without risking the front wheel from lifting off the ground.

  1. Bi-directional Quick Shift System

With two modes available, this system offers you to shift up or down quickly without the use of a clutch or releasing the throttle.

  1. Engine Brake Control System

Power is nothing without smooth control, and this cancels out the effect of engine braking in order to avoid rear tyre slide or skip.

  1. Motion Track Traction Control System

Using the input from the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), the system constantly monitors your lean angle to limit tyre slips in corners or even on the straights.

Working together in tandem, these five features are quietly working in the background to ensure you can enjoy all of the muscle squeezed out from the Hayabusa.

V-STROM 1050XT

Price:                    RM81,900.00 (suggested retail price without insurance and registration)

Colours:               Metallic Oort Gray No.3/Glass Sparkle Black Pearl Brilliant White/Glass Blaze Orange

The 2021 V-STROM 1050XT sports sharper styling, with a more pronounced beak design that pays tribute to Suzuki’s legendary DR-Z desert racer and the large commercial off-road model DR-BIG.

Designed and engineered to become “The Master of Adventure”, the V-STROM 1050XT is Suzuki’s most well-rounded motorcycle, allowing riders to explore the true potential of a sports adventure tourer. The motorcycle offers great balance in terms of performance, feel, and riding enjoyment, and is equipped with Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S) which offer riders better support and a more relaxed riding position. Its latest six-direction along three-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) makes use of highly accurate data in response to the posture of the vehicle in controlling systems such as the motion track brake system, the hill hold control system and the slope dependent control system.

A lightweight and compact chassis is central to realizing the V-STROM 1050XT’s comfortable and enjoyable character. The narrow width of its V-twin engine allows it to maintain a slim body even with a 20-litre fuel tank, enabling the rider to easily reach the ground with his or her feet. The lightweight cast aluminium twin-spar frame combined with the aluminium swing arm provides optimal rigidity balance for stability and light handling performance.

The new and improved liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1037cm3 90° V-twin engine has also evolved to meet with new Euro 5 emissions control standards while achieving high power and maintaining low fuel consumption. The engine delivers a deep rumble in the low rpm range, strong and linear torque in the mid-range (101Nm at 4000 rpm) and a maximum horsepower of 79kW at 8500 rpm.

Combined with a ride-by-wire throttle system, the V-STROM 1050XT inherits a larger bore (49mm compared to 45mm in the previous model) while the throttle body is independently installed to both the front and rear cylinders. Each throttle body has a single butterfly valve, allowing each to be opened and closed using its own independent motor for precise control.

Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S) increases rider usability and convenience and includes cruise control, Motion track brake system and combined brake system, a Hill hold control system, Slope dependent control system, Load dependent control system, Ride-by-wire electronic throttle system,

Traction control system (3 modes plus off mode), Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), Suzuki easy start system, and a Low RPM assist system.

The newly equipped cruise control system maintains the set speed without the rider having to operate the throttle -a feature for long-distance touring that helps reduce rider fatigue. Cruising speed can be activated from approximately 50km/h to 160km/h at fourth gear or above via a switch on the right side of the handlebar while a selector switch (up/down) on the left side of the handlebar allows the rider to adjust the speed. Cruise control is also cancelled under certain conditions, such as when the rider applies the brakes, grabs the clutch lever, shifts gears, when the throttle grip is further pulled back from the fully closed position, when the vehicle speed is below approximately 50km/h, at third gear or below or when the tyres spin. Suzuki’s Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), meanwhile provide three modes from a sharp throttle response, a softer throttle response, and the softest response of the three modes available.

For the Malaysian market, the V-STROM 1050XT comes standard with a set of Suzuki genuine aluminium side case set (silver) that will add more to the bike’s practicality, allowing you to ride even farther. Apart from being practical, the V- Strom 1050 XT also comes with an array of exclusive equipment such as an aluminium under cowling, accessory bar, LED turn lights, knuckle guards, an adjustable seat and windscreen and a 12V DC socket.

Also standard would be the center stand, which is what any adventure motorcycle needs.

Both the Hayabusa and V-STROM 1050XT are available at Suzuki Big Bike World showrooms throughout the country. Suzuki motorcycles come with a standard 2-year or 20,000km full factory warranty, backed by an experienced sales and service network of 70 dealerships nationwide.
