Sepang International Circuit (SIC), in partnership with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), is organising the first ever SIC-MAM Malaysia Motorsports Awards to honour Malaysia’s motorsports heroes. To be held on 13 February 2017 at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur hotel, the awards night recognises and honours individuals, organisations and teams for their contribution in developing Malaysian motorsports.
“In Malaysian motorsports, so many people have played their part in contributing to the development of motorsports in Malaysia, which is exciting, dynamic and inclusive – from competitors to teams, officials, journalists, clubs, corporations and even fans. We believe it’s about time that we recognised and honoured those who have contributed so much to the development of motorsports in Malaysia. SIC and MAM are proud and grateful to have this opportunity to bring this awards to life,” said Dato’ Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of Sepang International Circuit.
“In line with the goals of this awards event, we have assembled a distinguished panel of judges consisting of leading figures in Malaysian motorsports to select the most deserving award winners for the year. We believe the nominees and eventual winners are shining beacons of excellence and will inspire their peers,” he added.
The awards, intended to be the first instalment of an annual celebration, recognises excellence among current competitors and teams, as well as the media – in collaboration with the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM), and also marks the debut of the Malaysia Motorsports Hall of Fame. Themed ‘The Beginning of Motorsports in Malaysia’ this year, the Hall of Fame celebrates the greatest names in Malaysian motorsports across F1, MotoGP, two wheels and four wheels motorsports and their great service in bringing honour to the development of motorsports in Malaysia.
There are 8 competitive award categories which celebrate the achievement of sports media, drivers, riders and teams that performed exceptionally in 2016. They include the SIC-MAM-SAM Media Award for Journalist and Photographer, Best Team of the Year for 2-wheels and 4-wheels, and the top awards of the night presented to the Best Driver and Rider of the Year who are recognised for achieving significant milestones in their career.
There is also the Best National Championship Award to recognise the national series and championship winners and others who contributed significantly to the national championships in 2016. These include competitions such as the Sepang 1000KM, Malaysia Championship Series and Malaysia Superbike Championship. Additionally, there is the Malaysia Motorsport People’s Choice Award, whereby fans have the opportunity to vote for their favourite motorsports hero, from 3 to 10 February 2017 on SIC’s Facebook page. The People’s Choice Award gives fans the chance to select a local hero to receive the award, which celebrates the outstanding achievements of a competitor that has made his mark on the Malaysian motorsports scene. The 7 nominees this year include Alex Yoong, Jazeman Jaafar, Zulfahmi Khairuddin, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, Khairul Idham Pawi, Nabil Jeffri and Adam Norrodin. Don’t miss the opportunity to vote for your favourite!
