SAIC Motor Malaysia has expanded its locally assembled MGS5 line-up with the introduction of the new MGS5 EV COM (short for Comfort), an entry-level variant priced at RM103,900 (Peninsula Malaysia, excluding road tax and insurance). The new addition makes the MGS5 EV more accessible to a wider range of Malaysian customers, while retaining the model’s core strengths in performance, safety and technology.
The MGS5 EV is now available in two variants – COM with a driving range of up to 340km, and LUX (short for Luxury) with a driving range of up to 446km.
Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, said the introduction of the MGS5 reflects the company’s commitment to making electric mobility more attainable without compromising on quality or the driving experience.
“The SUV segment continues to see strong growth alongside increasing demand for electric vehicles. With the introduction of the MGS5 EV COM, we are making rear-wheel drive electric B-segment SUV ownership more accessible to a broader group of Malaysians. We believe this new variant offers exceptional value and allows more customers to experience the performance, technology and quality that define the MG brand,” said Qi.
Despite its more accessible price point, the MGS5 EV COM retains many of the key features found in the higher-spec LUX variant. Equipped with a 49kWh battery, it produces 170PS and 250Nm of torque, delivering a driving range of up to 340km. Meanwhile, the MGS5 EV LUX is powered by a larger 62kWh battery, producing 203PS and 350Nm of torque, with a driving range of up to 446km. Key differences between the COM and LUX variants include fabric seats in place of ventilated leatherette seats, 17-inch black alloy wheels instead of 18-inch alloy wheels, DC fast charging of up to 120kW versus 150kW, and the absence of a panoramic sunroof.
Safety remains a key priority for MG, with both variants equipped with seven airbags and the brand’s MG Pilot ADAS 2.5 advanced driver assistance system, featuring technologies such as Traffic Jam Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control.
The vehicle also incorporates an ultra-thin battery layout, lowering the centre of gravity, while improving cabin space and enhancing driving stability.
For those who want a more premium driving experience, the MGS5 EV LUX variant offers additional comfort and convenience features, including leatherette seats with MG’s signature perforated design, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, an 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, hands-free powered tailgate. The LUX variant retails at RM116,900 (Peninsula Malaysia, excluding road tax and insurance).
The COM variant is available in two exterior colours, Silver and Grey, while the LUX variant comes in five exterior colours, Gold, Silver and Grey. Both variants feature a contemporary dark interior, with fabric seats for the COM and premium leatherette seats for the LUX, complementing the MGS5 EV’s modern and sporty design.
All MGS5 EV variants come with a comprehensive ownership assurance package, including a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 180,000km battery pack warranty and an eight-year or 160,000km Motor Control Unit (MCU) warranty.
The new MGS5 EV COM is now available for viewing and bookings at MG showrooms nationwide. Priced at RM103,900, the new variant comes with a RM3,000 rebate and complimentary wallbox as part of the launch offer, giving customers even greater value while experiencing the MGS5 EV’s renowned British Driving Dynamics.
