RANGE ROVER ELECTRIC: A NEW ERA FOR THE ORIGINAL LUXURY SUV

RANGE ROVER ELECTRIC FRONT 3-4 02_09_26

RANGE ROVER ELECTRIC01 02_09_26 (1)

Range Rover, The Original Luxury SUV, is now available with electric propulsion, heralding a new era of enhanced refinement and capability. Built in Solihull – the home of Range Rover since 1970 – the first ever electric Range Rover marks a major milestone for the brand.

Quieter, more effortless, more responsive, and with more torque than any Range Rover to date, Range Rover Electric combines peerless design with exceptional refinement and breathtaking modernity. Electric propulsion enhances Range Rover’s inherent characteristics of effortless performance, timeless luxury and uncompromising capability, with a reduction in cabin noise.

Seamlessly integrating electric propulsion into a flexible architecture that was engineered for it from the outset, Range Rover Electric features twin permanent magnet 260kW electric motors generating up to 550PS and 850Nm of torque. The majority of Range Rover clients will be able to complete their typical daily journeys without the need to recharge thanks to a range of up to 372 miles (WLTP)1, and a real-world range of up to 333 miles (535km)4.

Martin Limpert, Managing Director, Range Rover, said: “Range Rover Electric is the result of a decade of considered engineering and technological development, setting a new benchmark for The Original Luxury SUV. Electric propulsion is perfectly suited to the exquisite refinement of Range Rover, elevating the sense of calm and secluded sanctuary for occupants.

“At the same time, Range Rover breadth of capability is uncompromised thanks to the combination of a powerful, adaptable electric powertrain and advanced chassis technologies that make every Range Rover peerless, accomplished and desired. We took our testing and development programmes even further than originally intended to ensure Range Rover Electric is genuinely the most accomplished Range Rover ever.”

New technologies enable precise control in all environments, including Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) which distributes rear torque from 100 per cent to zero per cent to prevent loss of traction, and Integrated Traction Management (ITM) which controls motor speed within 50 milliseconds and manages slip up to 100 times quicker than an ICE vehicle equivalent.

Integrated Traction Management works in concert with the new Single Pedal mode, providing owners exceptional control to smoothly pull away up to 33-degrees with ease – a slope as steep as a black-diamond ski run – or complete a rolling climb ascend up to 45-degree slopes.

Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, JLR, said: “The defining characteristic of Range Rover Electric is its ability to perform across every surface, with effortless comfort and refinement. We’ve worked tirelessly to ensure it retains those qualities. From challenging low-grip and rough terrain to smooth, high-speed roads, it remains incredibly composed and refined, with a real sense of control and confidence. The responsiveness and precision of the new driveline control systems, enabled by electric propulsion, perfectly support this. We’re very proud of the result.”

When it comes to charging away from home, using the fastest available 350kW rapid DC public chargers, Range Rover Electric can charge from 10-80 per cent in around 22 minutes or add 220km in 10 minutes (WLTP) when the vehicle is charging at its maximum charge rate.

The first ever electric Range Rover is powered by a usable 118.5kWh lithium-ion double-stack battery consisting of 344 prismatic cells delivering outstanding energy density. The advanced 800-volt architecture provides fast, adaptable split-charging capability.

Twin permanent magnet 260kW electric motors produce 20% more torque than other motors of the same size and feature silicon carbide semiconductors which enable remarkable switching speeds measured in microseconds, balancing efficiency with exceptional performance on all surfaces.

Range Rover Electric will complete 0-60mph in as little as 4.3 seconds, with power enabling overtaking speeds from 50-75mph in as little as 2.7 seconds5.

INNOVATION TESTED

Range Rover Electric has undergone exhaustive virtual and physical global testing and development to ensure a customary Range Rover experience. Tested in -40°C temperatures in Arjeplog, Sweden, the heat of the Dubai desert and JLR’s own Eastnor Castle facility in the UK, Range Rover Electric has completed over 1.5 million kilometres and over a quarter of a million hours of testing in the virtual and physical worlds.

New technologies maximise its electric potential – including innovative range prediction features and advanced ThermAssistTM heat management system which optimises driving range, charging speeds, battery longevity and performance in extreme temperatures, adding up to 25 miles of range and a 40% reduction of heating energy use. Over 300 patent applications have been filed for Range Rover Electric – the most for a single vehicle in the brand’s history.

To help maximise the safety and quality of the battery, JLR’s new battery testing laboratory subjects live batteries to extreme multi-axis vibration and shock testing in -40°C to +90°C. This combined with the high strength aluminium enclosure, means Range Rover Electric is built to withstand high impact knocks and jolts, while advanced safety features exceed industry standards.

For serviceability and maintenance, each Range Rover Electric comes with a Battery Digital Twin which provides over 900 diagnostic data points and coupled with JLR’s leading Software Over the Air capability6, allows Range Rover to proactively maintain clients’ vehicles. Range Rover Electric’s advanced propulsion comes with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty7.

BUILT IN SOLIHULL

To support production of Range Rover Electric, JLR has transformed its Solihull manufacturing facility, combining advanced manufacturing, digital technology and a major investment in electrification skills. Powering this transformation, 9,000 manufacturing employees in Solihull have now been upskilled for electrification, with a further 1,500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands footprint.

Nigel Blenkinsop, Chief Operations Officer at JLR, said: “Range Rover Electric production at Solihull brings together more than five decades of Range Rover manufacturing expertise with the latest electrification and advanced manufacturing technology.

“Range Rover creates significant value across the UK and Europe. Its production in Solihull supports thousands of businesses, with more than two-thirds of supplier spend directed to UK and European suppliers.”

JLR’s wider manufacturing network, including its Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton8, will support Range Rover Electric production. The site now produces battery packs and electric drive units alongside internal combustion engines, making it the UK’s largest internal combustion engine and electric powertrain production facility.

Its first phase of redevelopment covers 40,000m2 and has required more than two million hours of planning, engineering, construction and commissioning over four years. The transformation has added 13 battery and electric drive unit manufacturing lines, supported by nine kilometres of conveyors and 182 kilometres of power and data cabling – a length greater than the River Thames.

Advanced AI-enabled scanning cameras are integrated into the quality checking process during Electric Drive Unit manufacturing, ensuring critical components fit perfectly as well as meet Range Rover Electric’s exacting refinement standards. Additionally, every battery cell is performance-tested before insertion into a battery pack, which is again assessed for assembly integrity and performance before it’s fitted to a Range Rover Electric at Solihull.

ORDERS NOW OPEN

Range Rover retailers are similarly upskilled for this new era, ready to guide clients through the next steps of their Range Rover Electric journey. Order books are now open for Range Rover Electric in a choice of short or long-wheelbase9 body designs in SE, HSE and Autobiography specifications, as well as SV, SV Ultra and SV Black3. A curated First Edition is also available, finished in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black or Varesine Blue with newly introduced Light Cloud UltrafabricsTM PU and KvadratTM interior.

For clients looking to create a truly individual Range Rover Electric, the Range Rover Bespoke commissioning service offers an extended choice of near-limitless paint colours and finishes, elevated materials, tailored colour combinations and personalisation details including unique embroidery.
