Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF) Racing Series 2025 blasts-off this coming weekend on 16 February 2025 at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit with a full day of glorious wheel-to-wheel racing to be expected with some momentous changes and new racers ramping up the action.
MSF SuperTurismo series, the component series within MSF Racing for 4-wheels vehicles, features a brand-new official tyre partner, Giti Tire – a Singapore-based global tyre company. With its roots in Indonesia going back more than 70 years, Giti has since grown to become one of the world’s largest tire companies, and MSF Racing are delighted to introduce their GitiCompete range of tyres as the control tyre for MSF SuperTurismo.
“We at Giti Tire are excited to support MSF Racing as the official tire partner, introducing our GitiCompete range to Malaysia’s passionate motorsports community,” exclaims Ms. Shiroo Chia, Deputy General Manager, Rest of World Marketing at Giti Tire. “Performance, safety, and innovation are at the core of Giti Motorsports, and this partnership reflects our commitment to delivering tires that provide consistency and control on the track. We look forward to an exciting season ahead as drivers take on the challenge of mastering GitiCompete tires on the demanding circuits of MSF SuperTurismo.”
The GitiCompete GTR2 ultra high-performance tyre and the GitiCompete GTR2 Pro semi-slick tyre make their debut in Malaysian motorsports with MSF Racing, bringing a whole new perspective to the series after 9-years with Hankook Motorsports Tires. With almost zero data, drivers and teams will need to figure out working set-ups to successfully master the character of the new tyres. With special compounds that were specifically developed by Giti Tire Motorsports for MSF Racing, lap times are projected to be quicker and the racing intense.
The much-anticipated MSF Myvi Cup makes its debut as a full-season championship category for MSF SuperTurismo 2025, exploding with 15 entries registered for battle with cars from all generations of the Perodua Myvi, and featuring several successful local racing drivers with previous Series Champion distinctions. The MSF Myvi Cup is specifically for Perodua Myvi of any year and generation, with certain restricted modifications permitted.
Adian Yein, Director and Principal of MSF Racing says, “The lovable Perodua Myvi family of vehicles will now gain notoriety as precision racing machines. Malaysia needs to progress from just purchasing performance and motorsports equipment to becoming a supplier and manufacturer, and it is anticipated that this will spark and spearhead further aftermarket performance parts and knowledge development in the country’s automotive industry.”
In the MotoMSF Superbike series, a 3-year extension has been concluded with Pirelli to continue as the official racing tyres, using the Pirelli Diable SuperCorsa V4, the latest generation of Pirelli Race Replica tyre. Mr Peh Hong Wei, Country Consultant for Pirelli Asia said, “This long-term continuity with Pirelli showcases MotoMSF and Pirelli’s commitment to building the hobby-level superbike motorracing segment, providing the consistency for riders to continue their skills and performance development. We sell what we race, we race what we sell.”
The MotoMSF SuperBikes series will feature two Sprint races of just 5 laps each, the same format every year for Round 1, which historically makes for close, exhilarating and frenetic short races. Notable racers this round include Japanese rider Naomichi Uramoto, making an appearance riding a Suzuki GSXR-1000R. World Superbikes Championship rider Adam Norrodin will be aboard a similar Suzuki machine against Uramoto, whilst ex-125GP rider Zulfahmi Kamaruddin will take them on with a Yamaha R1M. They will be joined by 2019 Asian Champion Azlan Syah, forming a 4-way contest for the win.
The big excitement is the announcement of a new category for MotoMSF Superbikes: the MSF American V-Twin Cup, for ‘Bagger’ type and ‘Hooligan’ type motorcycles based on American V-twin machines such as Indian, Harley Davidson, and Victory motorcycles. Predominantly associated as cruiser bikes and American culture, this new sector is booming in the 2-wheels racing fraternity with very popular series in America and Thailand featuring big crowds and support. Says Adian of MSF Racing again: “It is hoped that the same enthusiasm can foster in Malaysia with the creation of this new category.”
For 2025, MSF Racing will feature live-streaming on its Facebook and YouTube pages, providing coverage of all the action and thrills from all rounds and races this year.
The Superbike racing starts in the morning and runs till lunch time, at which point the 4-wheel races will then hit the track. Paddock access passes are on sale at RM35 while parking is RM10, and entry to the main grandstand for spectators is free of charge.
