BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, solidified its position as the No.1 Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) in the country, with the BYD SEAL Premium (Extended Range) clinching the prestigious Overall Car of the Year (COTY) at the Malaysia Car of the Year Awards 2024 (MCOTY). With this milestone, BYD SEAL Premium (Extended Range) is also the first EV to be recognised for the coveted award. In addition to the top honour, BYD Sime Motors emerged as the biggest winner of the night, with a total of four awards. In addition to the Overall COTY 2024, the BYD SEAL (Premium Extended Range) also triumphed in the Sedan Below RM200,000 and xEV (RM150,000 to RM300,000) categories, while the BYD SEAL (Performance AWD) won the Sedan (RM200,000 to RM500,000) category.

The MCOTY is an esteemed recognition that highlights excellence in the automotive sector, celebrating achievements in innovation, sustainability and excellence. The criteria for the awards are meticulous, evaluating vehicles across various factors such as design, safety, performance, energy efficiency and value for money. The judging panel comprised automotive industry professionals, experts and media representatives, ensuring a transparent and comprehensive evaluation process.
The presence of the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, at the awards ceremony, reflects the significance and prestige of the event.
