BMW Motorrad Malaysia today introduced the New BMW C 400 X and BMW C 400 GT to the local market, further advancing the premium Urban Mobility segment in the country.
Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “To Make Life a Ride continues to be our main driver at BMW Motorrad. While adventures must remain indoors in the current environment, we look forward to journey from one adventure to another once again, be it on muddy off-road tracks or zipping through the city. BMW Motorrad has conquered every terrain, but the one that brings us a special joy this time is the Urban Mobility segment, as we introduce the latest generation of our premium mid-sized scooters.”
“The New BMW C 400 X and BMW C 400 GT will see riders enjoy a range of new technical optimisations that will provide an urban riding experience that prioritises comfort and safety, without compromising on its performance and riding dynamics. The Urban Mobility segment was the second highest delivered segment in the BMW Motorrad Malaysia portfolio in 2020 – just behind the all-time favourite Adventure segment, and we are confident these premium mid-sized scooters will win the hearts of our motoring enthusiasts in Malaysia once again,” added de Visser.
The New BMW C 400 X and BMW C 400 GT arrives with a revised brake system, EU-5 homologated single-cylinder drive with new E-gas feature, optimised engine management and centrifugal clutch. The Automatic Stability Control also sees further optimisation, along with a new illumination design in the seat storage compartment, and USB charging equipment.
Urban Mobility in the New Normal.
The New BMW C 400 X retains its light manoeuvrability as a mid-sized scooter with the V-shaped trim components, upright proportions, a front mudguard, and the clear, graphic separation of the painted trim components. The large asymmetric LED headlight also equips the New BMW C 400 X, along with the Daytime Running Light – now available as standard to the model.
The New BMW C 400 GT, on the other hand, reigns in the maxi scooter segment. The GT variant mid-size scooter also arrives with LED lighting technology and can be instantly identified by the aerodynamically designed twin LED headlight with now-standard Daytime Running Light. The ergonomically designed seat guarantees a comfortable as well as confident seating position. Featuring a separate rider backrest and integrated footboards, the New BMW C 400 GT also retains its high windshield for everyday practicality and touring suitability.
The ingenious storage concept with Flexcase now features optimised lighting under the seat bench for both the new models to improve comfort significantly. The lighting now illuminates from above, instead of the sides, for even better clarity. In addition to the 12-volt onboard socket, the front right storage compartment is now equipped with a USB charging socket as well.
Both models are powered by an efficiency-optimised single-cylinder engine with a capacity of 350cc as the drive unit. The engine outputs 34 hp (25 kW) at 7,500 rpm and 35 Nm peak torque at 5,750 rpm. The models employ power transmission through a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox including a torsional drivetrain swing arm with minimum vibration.
In addition to complying with EU-5 homologation, the revised drive impresses riders with a smoother and more sensitive throttle response, as well as increased idling stability. The engine is now equipped with an electronic throttle grip, or known as the E-gas, and an electrically-operated throttle valve. Further optimisations include a modified matrix and coating of the catalytic converter, a wideband oxygen sensor, modifications to the cylinder head, a new sensor on the generator cover, an adapted wiring harness and modified idle speed control. The idle speed regulator in the airbox has been omitted and the idle speed control is now carried out via a throttle valve bypass and a turbulence system – giving the new models optimised idling behaviour.
Safety is also offered via the newly-optimised Automatic Stability Control (ASC) that now features automatic radius calibration and increased regulation quality – giving the vehicles a more sensitive response, especially on wet and slippery surfaces. Deactivating the ASC is now no longer necessary as well. Suspension and damping continue to be managed by a telescopic fork at the front and two spring struts at the rear.
The brake system of the New BMW C 400 X and BMW C 400 GT are now revised with new brake calipers. The double-disc brake system at the front now offers a more stable and clearly defined pressure point, as well as improved roll-back behaviour of the brake pistons. This is accompanied by aligned lever travels for the rear brake on the left and the front brake on the right for a symmetrical braking feel. Both continue to be fitted with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) as standard.
Fast, clear information for the rider with minimum distraction continues to be possible with the Connectivity feature – now available as standard. Both models are also equipped with an instrument cluster in the form of a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. Together with the advanced BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller offering integrated operation, it allows the rider to access vehicle and connectivity functions. Effortless navigation by means of arrow-based navigation is also available through the BMW Motorrad Connected App. The advanced Keyless Ride feature now equips both models as standard, offering transponder activation for the steering lock, ignition, fuel-filler flap and anti-theft device, all in one vehicle key.
The New BMW C 400 X is available exclusively in the new Black Storm (Style Triple Black), while the New BMW C 400 GT arrives in three paint finishes – the new Black Storm (Style Triple Black), Callisto Grey, and Alpine White.
Both models will be available at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships nationwide starting 20th August 2021. All authorised BMW dealerships are now open for physical viewing, with strict adherence to the safety operating procedures recommended by the Ministry of Health.
