BMW Malaysia today previewed the New BMW 530e M Sport and the New BMW 530i M Sport – the upcoming additions to the premium automaker’s portfolio of locally-assembled premium executive sedans in the local market.

Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The BMW 5 Series has long set the leadership pace the premium executive segment with their outstanding driving dynamics, appearance and digital innovations. The upcoming introduction of these two new variants in Malaysia also signifies our commitment towards driving and leading change in the local automotive industry – especially in the electrified segment. With our continued investments into electromobility here, we will also further expand our portfolio of locally-assembled vehicles that are valued, both by BMW enthusiasts around the region, and our loyal customers in Malaysia as well.”

The New BMW 5 Series – arriving in both the plug-in hybrid and petrol variants, continues to drive the BMW Group’s momentum of success in the world of premium executive sedans, having won the “Car of the Year” award presented by ‘Auto, Motor und Sport’ Magazine and ‘What Car?’ Magazine in year 2020.

This momentum is mirrored locally as the latest variants of the BMW 5 Series – now complete with the latest-generation driver assistance systems and a redesigned appearance, will also enter the premium automaker’s impressive portfolio of vehicles that are proudly assembled in Malaysia.

Leading change – the New BMW 530e M Sport and BMW 530i M Sport.

The most successful premium executive model in the BMW portfolio is unveiled in two new variants, completing the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series with comprehensive engineering and design modifications.

Complete with the M Aerodynamics package, the new variants are now fitted with larger kidney grilles and slimmer headlights with a new daytime running light design. The New BMW 530e M Sport comes with Adaptive LED Matrix headlights, in addition to the standard LED headlights, while the New BMW 530i M Sport is equipped with the BMW Laserlight. Both include the anti-glare BMW Selective Beam high-beam assistant with turning lights, and adaptive cornering function.

The BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line frames the New BMW 530e M Sport, while the New BMW 530i M Sport is framed by the BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium Satinated. The front and rear bumpers on both variants are also redesigned with larger air intakes, alongside new LED taillight elements in the signature BMW L-shape. For the first time, the light source is integrated directly into the taillight’s outermost layer, maximising the 3D effect.

Pure dynamism also exudes from the new 19-inch M light alloy Y-Spoke 845 M Bi-Colour Jet Black wheels with both mixed and runflat tyres. The new variants also feature Adaptive Suspension and the M Sport brake with blue-painted M Sport brake callipers with M designation. Along the rear of the new variants are double-sided exhaust tailpipe finishers with a trapezoidal design and a distinctive diffuser insert.

The power of choice: electrifyingly charged and powerfully efficient.

The new variants are equipped with the formidable inline 4-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo 2-litre petrol engine, with the New BMW 530e M Sport featuring the latest generation of the BMW eDrive electric motor. The Eight-Speed Steptronic transmission system also comes as standard for both the new variants.

The New BMW 530e M Sport offers a combined maximum output of 292hp and 420Nm of torque – consisting of a 109hp output from the electric motor. The electrified variant is capable of a century sprint in 5.9 seconds. With a top speed of 235 km/h, the New BMW 530e M Sport consumes only 2.3l/100km of fuel with a CO2 emission of 53g/km. The electric motor is capable of an all-electric range of up to 67 kilometres (NEDC correlated) – making all-electric city driving and short journeys possible.

The electric motor can be fully-charged with a BMW i Wallbox in approximately 3 hours and 35 minutes, or under 6 hours with a conventional main socket via a standard charging cable. The driving mode in the electrified variant can be personalised via the eDrive button in the centre console. The standard AUTO eDRIVE setting enables all-electric driving up to a speed of 110 km/h. Switching to MAX eDRIVE mode enables all-electric speeds up to 140 km/h. The BMW Xtra Boost mode is also available in the New BMW 530e M Sport, giving the vehicle additional power of up 40hp during acceleration.

Meanwhile, the overall system output for the New BMW 530i M Sport is 252hp and 350Nm of torque, enabling the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. With a top speed of 250 km/h, the New BMW 530i M Sport consumes 6.7l/100km of fuel with a CO2 emission of 154g/km.

Further enhancing the driving experience of the New BMW 530e M Sport and BMW 530i M Sport are the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) that is complemented by Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist.

Safety is also uniquely offered in the New BMW 530e M Sport via a specially-created sound emitted via a loudspeaker system that alerts pedestrians and cyclists of the vehicle. This is activated when the vehicle is traveling in full electric at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

Remarkable design, sophisticated technology.

Inside, the New BMW 530e M Sport and BMW 530i M Sport boast an interior design language that is remarkably comfortable yet elegant in make. The new variants feature the exclusive M leather steering wheel, along with stylish sport seats for both the driver and the passenger – allowing a sense of thrill familiar to the BMW M Sport variants. The new variants are furnished with interior trim finishers in Aluminium Rhombicle, Dakota Leather upholstery and the BMW Individual anthracite headliner. Illumination within the car is provided by ambient lighting, while owners of the New BMW 530i M Sport are able to enjoy the electrical glass roof feature.

The new variants are intelligently equipped with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, running the latest BMW Operating System 7. This infotainment concept is distinguished by its restructured display set-up, consisting of a user-configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an equally large touchscreen Control Display. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional comes with navigation, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, two USB ports, 4G LTE connectivity and functions such as Remote Software Upgrade as well as over-the-air map updates for the navigation system.

With the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the New BMW 530e M Sport and BMW 530i M Sport take interactions between driver and vehicle to the next level. Vehicle functions that can be accessed and controlled via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant include phone calls, temperature adjustment, navigation, windscreen heating, sunblind activation and automatically lowering of all windows.

The dashboard includes a lighter-coloured contrasting seam, which continues onto the door trims, as well as control buttons in the centre console in high-gloss Black magnifies the interior design language of the New BMW 5 Series variants.

Exclusive to the New BMW 530i M Sport is the BMW Gesture Control, Head-Up Display, BMW Display Key and Harman Kardon surround sound system. Entertainment is offered to the New BMW 530e M Sport via a HiFi Loudspeaker system as standard.

For additional convenience, the new variants offer Comfort Access – providing seamless opening and closing of vehicle doors along with contactless tailgate operation. The new variants also feature automatic air-conditioning with 4-zone control, electric roller sunblinds for rear windows, and mobile phone charging.

Driving Assistance is provided to the new variants via the Lane Departure and Lane Change Warning, front collision alert with brake intervention, rear collision prevention and crossing-traffic warning. The Parking Assistant Plus feature for automatic parallel and perpendicular parking with a touch of a button comes as standard for both variants. Owners of the New BMW 530i M Sport can also benefit from the Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function.

The new variants will be available in Alpine White or Carbon Black, paired with either the Black or Cognac Leather Dakota upholstery; or in Phytonic Blue, Sophisto Grey or Bluestone paired with Black Leather Dakota upholstery.
