The opening round of 2021 Toyota Gazoo Racing Season 4 started in Sepang International Circuit on 27 April 2021 which saw 4 different classes; Promotional, Rookie, Sporting and Super Sporting competing with a total entry of 44 cars.
In Race 1, Adam Khalid was behind the cockpit of Crestmax Motorsport car No. 28 which he qualified 2nd in the morning’s official qualifying session. Adam’s teammate, Bradley Anthony driving for Dream Chaser in car No.55 did well to qualified for 3rd on the grid. There were 18 cars in the 20 laps Sporting Class. Adam started well 2nd on the grid and caught up with the leading car after just a few laps. However Bradley wasn’t so lucky. He completed the race in 14th place due to mechanical issues. With 9 laps to go, Adam overtook the leading car at Turn 4 and charged all the way to the chequered flag to claim 1st place in Race 1. In the Super Sporting Class, Bradley’s older brother Brendan Anthony driving for Team Dream Chaser in car No.22 encountered mechanical issue during qualifying and started Race 1 in 9th position on the grid but didn’t manage to finish the race as his car failed after several laps.
Race 2 took place on Sunday 28 April 2021. It was a reversed starting grid for the top 3 finishers of Race 1 and Adam Khalid will be starting 6th on the grid with a 20kg weight ballast for winning Race 1. It was a close fight in Race 2 with lots of contacts and bumper to bumper racing. Adam finished Race 2 in 3rd place, a credible finish despite the 20kg ballast and having to start 6th on the grid.
Bradley Anthony in car. No. 55 started Race 2 at the back of the grid due to some technical infringement penalty but the back row start did not hamper the young driver’s fighting spirit. At the end of the first lap, Bradley has already gained 3 positions. Bradley drove a clean and incident free race to finished 6th despite starting last on the grid. What an achievement!
Bradley’s brother Brendan in the Super Sporting Class started Race 2, 10th on the grid due to a mechanical failure and DNF (Did Not Finish) in Race 1. Brendan had a lot of pace in Race 2 and managed to climb up to 6th position in just the second lap. Luck was not on Brendan’s side even though he had the pace and the car was running well. After several laps, Brendan was pushed out to the gravel at Turn 7 that resulted in his retirement in the race.
Nonetheless it was good to be back racing again and Team Crestmax Motorsport and Team Dream Chaser will continue the challenge in the 2021 Toyota Gazoo Racing Season 4.
