GWM Malaysia yesterday marked another significant achievement in its ASEAN growth journey with the first CKD shipment of the GWM WEY G9 to Thailand, signaling a strengthened commitment toward regional collaboration, expanded New Energy Vehicle (NEV) capabilities, and cross-border industrial development.
This shipment follows the successful roll out of the first locally assembled GWM WEY G9 in Malaysia and represents the next strategic phase in GWM’s ambition to build a robust regional supply chain and manufacturing ecosystem within ASEAN.
Driving Regional Collaboration and NEV Industrial Growth
The commencement of CKD exports to Thailand highlights GWM’s confidence in Malaysia’s ability to support high-value automotive assembly, technology transfer and future export scalability. This initiative is expected to advance local manufacturing competitiveness, enhance vendor development, and elevate Malaysia’s position within GWM’s broader regional strategy.
The landmark shipment was witnessed by GWM Malaysia’s Managing Director, Mr. Cui Anqi and Chief Operating Officer, En. Roslan Abdullah.
A Strengthened ASEAN Roadmap for New Energy Mobility
“Today’s CKD shipment of the GWM WEY G9 to Thailand is a testament to the strong regional foundation we are building in ASEAN,” said En. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia. “Malaysia’s role as a strategic assembly hub allows us to support neighbouring markets with advanced New Energy products while deepening regional supply chain integration. This shipment marks an important step forward as we accelerate our presence across the region.”
Managing Director of GWM Malaysia, Mr. Cui Anqi, further added, “The GWM WEY G9 represents the convergence of world-class engineering and local craftsmanship. This shipment to Thailand demonstrates our growing capability to support GWM’s regional expansion. This is more than a logistical milestone. It is the beginning of a long-term roadmap that reinforces Malaysia’s position in GWM’s New Energy future.”
Premium New Energy Excellence Built in Malaysia
As with the Malaysian roll out, the GWM WEY G9 exported to Thailand is built on GWM’s dedicated luxury New Energy platform, supported by the brand’s global research and development network, and assembled with local quality assurance.
The model will introduce advanced technologies to the Thailand market, including:
- The Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system
- Intelligent safety technologies
- A refined, premium cabin experience designed for both family and business users
Strengthening Regional Competitiveness Through Local Assembly
The CKD programme in Malaysia continues to progress with deeper localisation, enhanced technical capabilities and talent development. These ongoing efforts not only boost Malaysia’s NEV capability but also reinforce GWM’s commitment to sustainable regional expansion.
Following this milestone CKD export, GWM Malaysia is continuing its preparations for the official launch of the GWM WEY G9 in early 2026. Building on the successful local assembly programme and growing regional interest, further details surrounding the launch will be announced in the coming weeks as GWM advances its New Energy Vehicle roadmap in Malaysia and across ASEAN.
