Speed, Style and something Wicked! GR SUPRA TRACK EDITION

GR SUPRA TRACK EDITION ADDS TRACK-FOCUSSED ENHANCEMENTS

GR Supra Track Edition

In 2019, a legendary sportscar returned after a 17-year absence. It was the GR Supra and not only was it a brand new Toyota sportscar but also served to introduce ‘GR’ as Toyota’s high-performance brand. The GR Supra remains the flagship of the range which today includes the GR Yaris, GR Yaris automatic variant and GR86, all of which have been developed in collaboration with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, the umbrella organisation managing Toyota’s global motorsports activities.

Since its introduction, the GR Supra (fifth generation of the model line which began in 1978) has been offered with various versions that enhance its fundamental appeal as a sportscar in its purest form. Such versions have drawn on TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s expertise and experience in high-performance vehicle development, particularly for competition use.

The latest of these special versions is the GR Supra Track Edition which, as its name suggests, has upgrades and features that make it an even more capable machine on the track. With its upgraded specifications, the Track Edition provides a more integrated driving experience on the track while also enhancing driving dynamics on winding roads.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The GR Supra Track Edition maintains the familiar iconic coupe form that evolved from the Celica Lift back in the 1970s. The sleek cab-backward body with a double bubble roof has improved aerodynamics with unique front underlip tyre spats and aero flaps around the front wheelarches to increase downforce. At the rear, a carbon fibre ducktail spoiler accentuates the swooping roofline and short rear overhang.

As with other Supra versions, the Track Edition has 6-lens LED headlights that provide strong illumination at night while having low power usage. While they are very bright, the Adaptive High Beam system ensures that they do not cause glare to oncoming drivers by automatically switching to low beams when necessary. The shape of the beam is also intelligently shaped for optimum coverage.

At the rear, the lighting units include full LED lamps and dot-type fog and reverse lamps which express a sportier outlook for the sportscar.

The standard 19-inch light alloy wheels are finished in a matte black coating, adding to the Track Edition’s dynamic looks. Michelin specially developed its Pilot Super Sport tyres for the GR Supra which are ZR-rated (above 240 km/h) and sized 255/35 at the front and 275/35 at the rear.

While the wheels are available only in matte black, customers have a choice of 6 exterior colours  for the 2025 GR Supra range.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The Track Edition comes with an exclusive interior package consisting of black Alcantara and leather upholstery with GR embroidery and red seatbelts, giving a sporty, exclusive and premium feel. For the variant with a manual transmission, the leather-wrapped shifter has a red ring around the knob, adding visual flair.

The driver-focussed cockpit comes with racing-inspired power-adjustable seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and sporty aluminium pedals. The multimedia system provides access to navigation, vehicle status information and settings can be made using a touchpad controller. High-quality music is delivered by the 12-speaker JBL HiFi Surround sound system.

Besides the classic digital combi instrument panel, there’s also a colour Head-Up Display (HUD) projected on the windscreen. The driver can stay informed of the road speed, infotainment and get navigation indicators clearly while looking ahead.

PERFORMANCE

The Track Edition is powered by the proven 3-litre in-line 6-cylinder B58 engine. This smooth, flexible and powerful 24-valve powerplant has power boosted by a Twin Scroll turbocharger with minimal lag. Maximum power output is 388PS at 5,800 – 6,500 rpm with peak torque of 500Nm available between 1,800 – 5,000 rpm.

The Track Edition can be ordered with either a 6-speed manual transmission or 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. The automatic transmission has Shiftmatic which allows manual gear selection using either the shifter or paddles on the steering wheel.

The more significant enhancements for the Track Edition are in the performance-focussed chassis which has ‘golden ratio’ track and wheelbase proportions for optimum handling agility and control.

The Electronically Controlled Limited Slip Differential has an exclusive Track Edition control to enhance overall stability, allowing the driver to push the limits further.

The Electric Power Steering is also enhanced with an exclusive Track Edition control map. The driver will feel even better responsiveness, allowing steering inputs to be immediately transmitted to the wheels. This direct steering feel gives a greater sense of unity with the car for more enjoyable driving on public roads.

The Adaptive Variable Suspension system that is standard on the GR Supra has been retuned for the Track Edition to match the enhanced driving dynamics. Its characteristics are more track-focussed to achieve better grip. A changed front control arm and negative front camber adjustment further improve handling and cornering grip. Other minor changes include a stiffer stabiliser bar with aluminium brackets, and reinforced rubber bushings.

As with all GR Supras, the character of the car can be altered to suit driving preferences or conditions with the SPORT mode. In this mode, the programming is changed for the engine, transmission, suspension, steering and LSD.

The brakes are important in every car, more so in a powerful sportscar like the GR Supra. For increased stopping performance, especially with constant braking in track conditions, the 36mm-thick ventilated front brake discs have been enlarged by 26 mm to 374mm. Finished in red, each front Brembo caliper with 4 pistons has a GR logo.

GR SUPRA SAFETY

Safety is always a priority for Toyota, whether it is an everyday sedan like the Vios or a powerful sportscar like the GR Supra. Toyota Supra Safety technologies have a variety of active systems which allow drivers to take the car to the very high limits in safety.

Advanced driver assistance systems include Pre-Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking which is active from 5 km/h to210 km/h. The camera and radar sensors not only scan the road ahead for other vehicles but can also detect pedestrians and bicyclists (from 5 km/h to 65 km/h).

The Adaptive Cruise Control system is available at all speeds and can remain active even after the car has slowed down to a stop, resuming when the vehicle ahead moves off. It intelligently maintains a safe gap with the vehicle ahead, adjusting the set cruising speed accordingly. This allows semi-autonomous driving which can reduce fatigue on long journeys.

Also helping to reduce driving workload is the Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist system. While some lane departure systems may only warn the driver when the car unintentionally moves out of its lane, the GR Supra’s system also provides gentle steering correction to guide the car back into its lane. On long drives, this can also reduce fatigue as the driver does not need to constantly make small corrections.

Additionally, there are features like the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Intelligent Parking Sensor with Emergency Braking Function and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
