MICHELIN LAUNCHED THE NEW MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 5 & THE NEW MICHELIN ROAD 6 TYRE RANGE.

1. MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5

1. MICHELIN Road 6

MICHELIN, the world’s leading tyre company, has recently introduced the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 – the fifth generation of the high-performance Pilot Sport range, targeting sports car and high-performance sedan enthusiasts. Equipped with a range of sophisticated features, the new tyres enable drivers to get the most from their driving experience for further distances[1], while traveling in style and living each driving moment to the fullest.

MICHELIN Malaysia’s Managing Director, Oliver Biggart said, “With the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5, MICHELIN further strengthens our complete and best overall high-performance Pilot Sport range, with ‘Performance Made to Last’ being our key differentiator. Inspired by motorsports, the tyre is perfect for drivers who demand sporty driving performance and expect nothing but the best. What’s more, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 goes one step further in aesthetics, as evidenced by its 2021 Contemporary Good Design Award – one of the world’s most prestigious international design awards.”

Key benefits of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 include:

  • Commanding the road confidently with long-lasting tyre grip, as the tyre offers maximum control with extremely good grip and braking performance on wet[2] and dry[3] ground – thanks to the Dual Sport Tread Design technology, a dual side functionalized tread design, inspired by Motorsport experience, featuring the inner side with large grooves and high void ratio for enhanced wet road traction, and the external side with rigid blocks for better grip on dry roads; plus Groove Clear, the association of large longitudinal grooves that dump water into wide transversal channels designed to efficiently divert water out of the way.

[1] Longevity:  Based on DEKRA Test Center, 3rd party tread wear test using 225/40 R18 92Y XL PS5 tyres on a VW Golf 8 – 5 doors at Narbonne, France in Jun, Sep-Oct 2021.  MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 lasted 33.5% longer than premium brands. Actual on-road results may vary under different weather, road and vehicle conditions.

[2] Wet braking:  External tests conducted by TÜV SÜD Product Service, on MICHELIN’s request, between 80-20 kph, in June 2021, on dimension 225/40 ZR 18 XL 92Y on VW Golf 8. On wet road, MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 stopped 1.4 m (New tyres) and 4.0 m (Worn tyres) shorter than other premium brands.  (worn tyre means tyre worn (buffed) on machine to the depth of Tread Wear Indicator according to European regulation: ECE R30r03f). Results may vary depending on road, vehicle, tyre conditions or driving behaviors.

[3] Dry braking:  External tests conducted by TÜV SÜD Product Service, on MICHELIN’s request, between 100-0 kph in June 2021, on dimension 225/40 ZR 18 XL 92Y on VW Golf 8. On dry road, MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 stopped 1.3 m shorter than other premium brands. Results may vary depending on road, vehicle, tyre conditions or driving behaviors.

  • Enhanced spirited driving that lasts for more miles[1]; experience lasting performance throughout the tyre’s lifespan, with precision and exceptional responsive driving – thanks to the Dynamic Response technology that features a hybrid aramid and nylon belt for optimum transmission of steering instructions onto the road; and the MaxTouch ConstructionTM that maximizes the tyre’s contact with the road and evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking, and cornering – delivering longer tread life without sacrificing performance; and
  • Embracing both style and substance with the Premium Touch Sidewall Design that creates a sleek, matte-black aesthetic with a velvet-like micro texture; and the Wear2Check, an easy-to-find and easy-to-read tread wear indicator, designed to facilitate monitoring and to help drivers to optimize the longevity potential of the tyre.

“This new race-born tyre amplifies sport performance made to last – providing throughout its lifespan both driving dynamics with precision, as well as safety. It is a truly ideal tyre for those who need first-class experience, and look for aesthetic exclusivity,” concluded Biggart.

The new MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 is available for sale from 4th April 2022 in 26 dimensions from 17 to 19 inches at Michelin’s authorized tyre dealers across the nation, with 21 more sizes from 17 to 21 inches to be made available by end of 2022. The recommended retail price of the new MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 starts from RM700 to RM1,900.

HE NEW MICHELIN ROAD 6 TYRE RANGE.

As the latest in a long line of class-leading sport touring tyres, MICHELIN is pleased to introduce the MICHELIN Road 6 tyre range to the Malaysian market. The new line-up is designed to offer riders of roadsters, trail bikes, sports bikes and GT motorcycles optimised performance in terms of wet grip, longevity, comfort and handling.

Alongside the standard MICHELIN Road 6 tyre range – which now incorporates sizes for big trail bikes, the MICHELIN Road 6 GT tyre, designed for grand touring machines, is also available for the local market.

Using technologies developed by engineers in MICHELIN’s R&D centres, the new MICHELIN Road 6 tyre offers a 15 percent improvement in wet grip1 and a 10 percent increase in tyre life2 compared with its predecessor, the MICHELIN Road 5 tyre.

These improvements in performance have been made possible by a new tread design, coupled with advances in raw materials and optimized tyre architecture.

Tread Design:

  • An optimized void ratio of 14 percent (the ratio of grooves to rubber), which gives high levels of grip performance in wet and dry conditions. This ratio does not change when cornering to give consistent feedback.
  • MICHELIN Water EverGrip technology – a patented sipe technology developed by MICHELIN to give high levels of wet grip and rider confidence in these conditions. The design of these sipes mean that they open as the tyre wears.
  • New groove and sipe angles, with longer edges to cut through the film of water and grip the road surface.

Raw Materials:

  • A 100 percent silica compound featuring MICHELIN Silica Technology improves grip in cooler conditions and on damp and wet roads, without any compromise on tyre life.
  • MICHELIN 2CT+ (2 Compound Technology) front and rear means that different parts of the tread are optimized for different performance characteristics. The harder under layer of tread rubber maintains rigidity during cornering, whereas the softer upper layer in contact with the road offers very good grip and high mileage in dry and wet conditions.

Architecture:

  • MICHELIN Radial X Evo technology – the 90-degree plies on the crown of the tyre ensure a wide footprint giving high grip levels, both in a straight line and at lean angles. The sidewalls of the new generation of Radial X Evo tyres use a special ply fold that provides even more flexibility and greater comfort by absorbing road deformations, and at high speeds the tyre remains stable, making it well-suited to high-powered motorcycles. The overall effect of this technology is that the handling and responsiveness of the tyre are optimized to provide riding pleasure and fun without compromising on safety.
  • MICHELIN Aramid Shield technology is a highly dense, more rigid tyre casing, which helps give excellent feedback and handling. Aramid tread plies resist centrifugal growth at speed, reduce weight and provide excellent stability.

Another MICHELIN first.

Bearing in mind the pride that most riders have in the appearance of their motorcycles, a first for a MICHELIN Road tyre range is the use of MICHELIN Premium Touch Design in the sidewall design of the MICHELIN Road 6 tyres. This exclusive technology uses micro geometry on the sidewalls to create texture, which in-turn allows it to modulate contrast and create shades of grey to highlight the tyre markings and give an attractive finish.

Now at all authorized MICHELIN tyre dealers nationwide, the new MICHELIN Road 6 tyre is available in six front and eight rear sizes, while the MICHELIN Road 6 GT tyre range is available in one front and three rear sizes. This range provides fitments for everything from small roadsters such as the KTM 390, through sports bikes and trail bikes, up to GT machines such as the BMW K1600 GT/GTL.

MICHELIN Road Tyre History.

The MICHELIN Road 6 tyre range follows in the footsteps of a long line of MICHELIN firsts in its Road tyre ranges:

2002    MICHELIN Pilot Road – the first Road tyre range

2007    MICHELIN Pilot Road 2 – the first Road tyre range featuring sipes

2014    MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 – the first Road tyre range with a dedicated GT version

2018    MICHELIN Road 5 – the first Road tyre range using 3D sipe technology

With valuable points secured and consistent pace shown across both race segments, Viper Niza Racing remains well-positioned as the championship heads into its final three rounds.
