The success in rolling out the Suzuki brand back into the Malaysian market has not stopped Suzuki Malaysia from introducing more exciting products.

With eight models under its wings and well accepted by the market, Suzuki Malaysia has now introduced two new models which are meant for the streets; the Suzuki GSX-S1000 street bike and the Burgman 400 maxi scooter.

Dato’ Jeffrey Lim, the General Manager and Director of Suzuki Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. believes that these two models would be able to close the gap between the previously launched models.

“The Suzuki GSX-S1000 is the epitome of the brand’s engineering approach to gain the best possible balance of overall performance – Run. Turn. Stop.

This is a motorcycle that is aimed squarely at experienced riders who want maximum controllability and agility for an even more exciting riding experience,” Lim explains.

“Even the new stacked LED headlight assembly and the sharp front end take inspiration from jet fighters,” he continues.

The Burgman 400 maxi-scooter has been long-awaited by Malaysian scooter fans. The name itself has been carving its own niche since it was globally introduced in 1998.

“Burgman is not a new name but the product has received various updates to make it into a refined coupe styling that further cements its position in the scooter market.

With more than 760,000 units sold from the beginning until the end of 2020, the Burgman clearly has the right pedigree to be a popular urban vehicle. A sexy design with practicality to boot is a boon to use, especially with its 400cc DOHC engine that offers the ideal balance of power from low-to-midrange rpm and powerful acceleration at high rpm,” Lim says as he describes the Burgman 400.

Having good products alone might not be sufficient but with Suzuki Malay vastly vast experience in the big bike market and the help of more than 70 authorised sales and service dealerships throughout the nation, owners are assured that owning a Suzuki will be an exciting experience.

SUZUKI BURGMAN 400

  • RM45,999.00 (suggested retail price without insurance and registration)
  • Metallic Mat Sword Silver.

First launched in 1998, the Burgman 400 pioneered a new market for large-displacement scooters with its comfort level, storage space and elegant styling.

The updated Burgman 400 features the latest styling and Euro 5 emission standards plus new technologies such as a dual spark system and traction control.

DESIGN

The “Burgman Coupe” design offers functionality that riders appreciate, including slim front and rear end proportions to make cruising around town and slipping through tight spaces a breeze.

The stepped dual-seat design is well-suited to tandem riding, and an upswept muffler design accentuates the machine’s streamlined look.

The nose features sharply styled dual LED headlights with integrated LED position lights and turn signals mounted beneath.

The slim rear end of the BURGMAN 400 features independent LED rear combination lights with the turn signals at their tips.

ENGINE

Updated to meet the Eruo 5 emission standards the 400cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, single- cylinder, fuel-injected engine produces well balanced low-to-midrange torque with improved throttle control.

It also offers a sophisticated ride higher in the rev range for easy highway cruising, both of which are thanks to revised engine parts including cylinder heads, pistons, injectors, as well as revised highly optimised combustion.

The newly adopted Suzuki Dual Spark Technology increases the number of spark plugs to two to improve combustion efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and achieve more stable power output.

The power plant produces a healthy 29.2 PS and 35.2 Nm while giving a good fuel economy at 4.0L/100km (average).

The Burgman 400 also lets the rider enjoy strong acceleration in the mid (approx. 90 km/h) to high (approx. 120km/h) speed range, both riding solo or with a passenger.

A new traction control system reduces slipping when taking off from a stop with the throttle fully open and lowers wheel spin on slippery or uneven road surfaces to maintain efficient forward movement.

Whether riding across wet asphalt, cobblestone streets, traction control offers the rider peace of mind and excellent road-holding ability.

CHASSIS

Its slim, compact exterior components are instantly recognisable as those of a BURGMAN, making the machine easy to handle, particularly on narrow streets and in congested traffic.

The stepped dual seat combines a 78.5 mm thick cushion with a slim design to provide luxurious comfort for riders and passengers alike. The rider’s backrest can be adjusted forward by either 15mm or 30mm to provide optimal support and comfort for riders of various builds on longer outings.

Even with a slim, compact rear-end design, there is still ample storage room under the seat. 42 litres of space allows for the storage of two helmets (one full face and one demi-jet helmet) or an ample amount of riding gear.

Two front compartments provide 2.8 litres of storage space on the left side and 3.5 litres on the right. One compartment houses a 12V DC outlet for charging a mobile phone or other electronic devices.

The Φ41mm telescopic front forks, which provide a generous 110mm of suspension stroke, pair with a unique link-type mono-shock rear suspension with 7-way adjustable spring preload to maximise the balance between comfort and sporty performance with 100mm of wheel travel, and to deliver exceptional handling and manoeuvrability.

The large 15-inch front wheel present not only a bold image but conveys a sense of stability.

Dual Φ260mm front disc brakes combine with an outer diameter 210mm rear disc brake to supply plenty of stopping power.

The Antilock Brake System (ABS)* monitors wheel speed and matches stopping power to available traction to provide greater confidence and control. The system adopts a new lightweight ABS control unit that reduces weight by 36 g over the current model.

SUZUKI GSX-S1000

  • RM76,900.00 (suggested retail price without insurance and registration)
  • Metallic Triton Blue

Closely similar to the mighty GSX-R1000 that has its eyes on the racetrack, the GSX-S1000 is created to conquer the streets. The street-tuned of the powerful long-stroke 999cc engine which is also used in the GSX-R1000 is coupled to a compact and lightweight chassis with state-of-the-art running gear and a comfortable upright riding position to epitomise Suzuki’s “Run. Turn. Stop” engineering approach for the best possible balance in overall performance.

DESIGN

The product concept for the GSX-S1000 is “The Beauty of Naked Aggression” which clearly conveys its role as a street fighter that brings out the best in any aspect. Nimble handling and great controllability, thanks to its finely tuned components and the use of advanced technologies will provide the rider with a highly satisfying feeling of being in control of a machine with such potential.

The front end takes cue from the jet fighters while the thin tail section creates a lighter, tougher profile with a mass-forward look that accentuates the muscular bulk of the mid-section. The decals feature new logo styling and carbon fibre-like texture while a custom-designed key mascot sports the GSX-S logo on the grip end.

ENGINE

Using a track proven 999cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four engine that has been put through updates and refinements aimed at delivering smoother, more consistently powerful output with a focus through the low to mid range speeds most commonly used in daily riding situations, the GSX-S1000 certainly has criteria to be the perfect street fighter.

The updated and compact 4-2-1 exhaust system introduces a new layout behind the collector that repositions the Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) system and muffler, new catalytic converters and a revised chamber design that helps satisfy Euro 5 emissions standards.

Suzuki also retains the intake sound’s impressive resonance while enhancing the quality of its note. Finally, the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) provides smoother deceleration and better control when downshifting, while also realising a lighter touch to clutch lever operation.

As a result, maximum power has increased by 2 PS to 152 PS compared with the previous model. Acceleration is also quicker while the emission standard has been upgraded to a tighter Euro 5 compliance.

SUZUKI INTELLIGENT RIDE SYSTEM (S.I.R.S.)

The Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) allows selection from three different output characteristic modes to match individual riding preferences in differing conditions, whether out for a sporty run or participating in a track day event, riding on slippery or rough roads, or just enjoying a leisurely ride on city streets.

The Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) with 5 mode settings + OFF puts the rider in control with greater confidence in diverse conditions while reducing stress and fatigue.

New ride-by-wire electronic throttle control system is simpler, lighter and more compact than the previous mechanical throttle.

Bi-directional Quick Shift System (ON/OFF) provides quicker, smoother upshifts and downshifts without operating the clutch lever. This helps prevent missed shifts, reduces fatigue, and the automatic blipping function when downshifting creates a highly satisfying experience.

CHASSIS

The compact, lightweight chassis is engineered to provide an agile, fun-to-ride character and deliver optimum performance in real-world riding conditions, from riding around town to heading out for a sporty run.

The twin-spar aluminium frame, with a straight main tube from the steering head to the swingarm pivot, achieves high rigidity and is lightweight for nimble handing and road-holding performance. The aluminium alloy swing-arm is derived from the GSX-R1000 super sport model.

New handlebars with 23mm wider grip and revised angle combined with an updated seat design to achieve an upright riding position that offers comfort while enjoying a sporty riding experience.

Fully adjustable ø43mm KYB Inverted front forks deliver a sporty yet smooth ride. The adjustable link- type rear suspension contributes to agility and stability.

A new fuel tank increases fuel capacity to 19L to reduce the frequency of fuel stops thereby contributing to greater convenience on long rides.

Antilock Brake System (ABS) matches stopping power to available traction and the 4-piston Brembo mono-block front brake callipers are mated with ø310mm floating-mount dual discs to deliver strong, reliable braking performance.

Both models will be available at Suzuki showrooms throughout the country. Suzuki motorcycles come with a standard 2-year or 20,000km full factory warranty, backed by a sales and service network of 70 dealerships nationwide.
