BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia today announced the completion of their reforestation commitment in Borneo with the Animal Projects and Environmental Education (APE Malaysia), which saw a contribution of 735 new trees planted under the Restore Our Amazing Rainforest (ROAR) programme.
Matthias Schlesiger, CEO of BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia said “In the last year, we have made several commitments to give back to local communities in any way we can. We started with the BMW Safety 360° campaign where we were able to raise donations to fund complimentary child car seats for families in need. We extended the same effort to biodiversity conservation as well and partnered with APE Malaysia to support their reforestation efforts in the forests of Borneo. The protection of natural resources ultimately falls onto the very people that benefit from it, and we are grateful that our customers share this conviction with us.”
The initiative, which ran from 1st May to 31st July this year, saw contributions made on behalf of BMW and MINI customers, for every funded contract of the following models*: the BMW 330e M Sport, BMW 530e M Sport, BMW 740Le xDrive, BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport, as well as the MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 and The New MINI Cooper SE 3 Door.
For every RM100 raised, five new trees were successfully planted at the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary under the ROAR programme. The programme serves to restore habitat for endangered animals which includes the orangutan and Borneo pygmy elephant, as well as to counteract carbon footprint.
The fundraising efforts by BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia continue, as customers can still own their dream PHEVs while contributing to another good cause. From now until 31st December, RM100 from every funded contract of the same list of BMW and MINI PHEV models will be channelled to two local non-governmental organisations: Refuge for the Refugees and Empire Project – both of which are actively providing essential aid to vulnerable communities in Malaysia.
