BMW Motorrad Malaysia today introduced the New BMW G 310 GS and BMW G 310 GS ’40 Years Edition’, along with the New BMW G 310 R – all of which feature several enhancements to create a new experience for the displacement segment of under 500 cm3.
Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “Our promise to Make Life a Ride is one that is made to every customer, each with varying needs and interests. Earlier this year, the revered and widely celebrated BMW R 18 Classic and BMW S 1000 RR were unveiled, bringing joy to motorcycling enthusiasts across Malaysia. Today, we are pleased to be introducing three new robust and dynamic additions in the form of the New BMW G 310 GS and BMW G 310 GS ’40 Years Edition’, along with the New BMW G 310 R, designed for everyday versatility, whether in everyday traffic, or for when traveling is allowed again for rides on every terrain.”
The New BMW G 310 GS can be recognised at first glance as a genuine BMW GS. With its characteristic windscreen, high front fender, striking flyline and short, high rear end, it retains the main elements of the larger BMW R 1250 GS models. The ’40 Years Edition’ model features the eye-catching black and yellow look, inspired by the BMW R 100 GS and the rich GS history. The New BMW G 310 R, on the other hand, bears an unmistakeable visual similarity to the sporty BMW S 1000 R. With the addition of a full-LED headlight, both the new models now feature an even more aggressive and dynamic appearance from the front.
Enhanced dynamics, safety to match – latest additions to the BMW GS and R Series.
The new LED headlight not only ensures particularly bright and homogeneous illumination of the road ahead but has also been engineered with a modified connection to ensure distracting vibrations of the light cone are a thing of the past. Three light functions are available to the new models – high beam, low beam and daytime running light – which can be conveniently operated using the left handlebar controls.
In terms of appearance, the three new models also feature engine housing covers for the alternator, clutch, and water pump, now painted in metallic titanium grey. Unique to the BMW G 310 GS ‘40 Years Edition’, however, is the historic black and yellow appearance – inspired by the legendary BMW R 100 GS. Eye-catching design elements in yellow highlight the unmistakable GS Flyline of the BMW G 310 GS ’40 Years Edition’, complemented by the black windscreen, handlebars, fuel tank, engine block and rims. This limited-special edition model of 40 units will only be available this year, while stock last.
Sitting at the heart of the New BMW G 310 GS, New BMW G 310 GS ’40 Years Edition’ and the New BMW G 310 R remains the reliable 313 cm3 liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with four valves, two overhead camshafts and electronic fuel injection. The cylinder inclination to the rear and the cylinder head rotated by 180 degrees with intake at the front and exhaust at the rear remain the defining design characteristics. With optimal combustion air ducting in mind, this arrangement allows for a particularly compact vehicle architecture, as well as an output of 34 hp (25 kW) at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm.
An improvement to the new models, the engine is equipped with an “electronic throttle grip” (electromotive throttle controller) and now offers an even more sensitive throttle response. Automatic idle speed increase when starting also prevents a possible sudden stalling of the engine. The self-boosting anti-hopping clutch is also a new addition and serves to reduce engine drag torque, providing a significant increase in driving safety – particularly during braking manoeuvres involving simultaneous downshifting. It also offers significantly reduced operating forces at the clutch lever, which is now adjustable in four stages along with the handbrake lever, providing enhanced ergonomics.
The New BMW G 310 GS is offered in three colour variants – Kyanite Blue Metallic (Style Rallye) and Polar White, along with Cosmic Black – exclusive to the ’40 Years Edition’. Meanwhile, the New BMW G 310 R is available in Limestone Metallic (Style Sport).
The New BMW G 310 GS and BMW G 310 GS ’40 Years Edition’, along with the New BMW G 310 R are available at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships nationwide starting 20th August 2021. All authorised BMW dealerships are now open for physical viewing, with strict adherence to the safety operating procedures recommended by the Ministry of Health.
